Tombstone, AZ

Yesterday we decided to take the drive down to Tombstone with Luke and Leia. Most of you probably already know, but for those who don't, Tombstone is the former silver boom town where Wyatt Earp and his brothers, Virgil and Morgan, along with Doc Holiday, had their famous gunfight at the OK corral in 1861 against the Clanton's and McLaury's.

Today, Tombstone is known by the moniker of, "The Town To Tough To Die". Tombstone is largely only a tourist attraction but still contains much of the history and charm of a old west town. The town is filled with eccentric characters. Gunmen and lady's of the night, dressed in period garb still stroll the streets. Each day, recreation gunfights are staged both at Helldorado Town and the site of the OK corral.

I wonder if this is the type of coach that Wyatt hoped to establish when he arrived in Tombstone in 1879. Upon arrival he found that two coach lines were already established ultimately leading him to become a "peace officer".

The Bird Cage Theater was established in 1881

The above two photos were all I got to see of one of the staged gunfight scenes in Helldorado Town. I stood on a terrace away from the stands with the dogs. After the first few gunshots, Leia determined that she was done watching the play and wanted to leave the area post haste! Luke on the other hand thought it was fun and wanted to play along! I didn't want to subject Leia to any more trauma, so we headed back into town, away from the noise. After a few moments away and a sip of water she was fine.

Odd seeing the old west architecture with modern day cars parked in front.
Y'all be good today!!

  2. Hi Kids!!!

She is funny. She absolutely loves meeting and seeing people, but when she is done, she is done! LOL

Our plan is to be here in Benson for at least two weeks total, then maybe move on to Tucson for a short stay (it's only 50 miles away) and then off to the Phoenix area probably for another 2 weeks or so before heading further north eventually to the canyonlands.

    How's life in Livingston?
